Annotation:
Jennifer Rothschild wrote a book called Self Talk, Soul Talk: What to Say When You Talk to Yourself. A Bible study called “Me, Myself, and Lies” is based on her book. The topic? Our thoughts! I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but we tend to be very critical of ourselves. Have you ever called yourself stupid? Or looked in the mirror and thought you were ugly? Our thoughts can be so destructive!

This Bible study makes us aware of our negative thoughts but also provides tips for changing those thoughts into positive ones through prayer, accountability, and faith.

Do you ever find yourself caught in a negative thought cycle? What do you do to snap out of it? What do you do to prevent falling back into it?

Indescribable

February 20, 2011

Sundays are a day of worship for me. I enjoy going to church and being filled through songs and messages. That said, I’m not much of a hand-raiser…. However, there is one song that makes my heart happy and my hips sway. The song lyrics are below. You may recognize it from Chris Tomlin.

Indescribable
Songwriters: Story, Laura; Reeves, Jesse

From the highest of heights to the depths of the sea
Creation’s revealing Your majesty
From the colors of fall to the fragrance of spring
Every creature unique in the song that it sings
All exclaiming

Indescribable, uncontainable
You placed the stars in the sky
And You know them by name
You are amazing, God

All powerful, untameable
Awestruck we fall to our knees
As we humbly proclaim
You are amazing, God

Who has told every lightning bolt where it should go
Or seen heavenly storehouses laden with snow
Who imagined the sun and gives source to its light
Yet, conceals it to bring us the coolness of night
None can fathom

Indescribable, uncontainable
You placed the stars in the sky
And You know them by name
You are amazing, God

All powerful, untameable
Awestruck we fall to our knees
As we humbly proclaim
You are amazing, God
You are amazing, God

Indescribable, uncontainable
You placed the stars in the sky
And You know them by name
You are amazing God

All powerful, untameable
Awestruck we fall to our knees
As we humbly proclaim
You are amazing God

Indescribable, uncontainable
You placed the stars in the sky
And You know them by name
You are amazing, God

Incomparable, unchangeable
You see the depths of my heart
And You love me the same
You are amazing, God
You are amazing, God

The words of this song just speak to me in ways many others do not. They make me want to wave my hands in the air and fall on my face before God at the same time.

What songs speak to you this way? Are there any songs that make your heart happy? Or challenge you in your faith?

Word of the Day: Song
Word to the Wise:  “Shout to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.”  Psalm 100:1-2

Disclaimer: I have nothing against hand-raisers, dancers, and clappers in church. In fact, there is this cute little old man at church that I admire every Sunday because he gets so into the worship that he throws fist pumps, claps his hands, and bobs back and forth in his seat. Can I get an Amen?!
